Our Consultant Spotlight of the month is Katie. Here she shares with us some of her business insights and words of advice!
1. When did you begin your Pure Romance career?
I started Pure Romance Feb 28th, 2010, after attending only one party.
2. What attracted you to Pure Romance? What was your “why”?
Originally I started Pure Romance as a job to do while I was in college. I had crazy class hours during my graduate degree and could not find a job that I thought paid enough that would also work around my school hours. After hearing how much I could make I figured I would give it a try. My first party was with my mother, my aunt, and all of their girlfriends (these ladies used to change my diapers as a child, so yes it was a tad uncomfortable, not to mention I didn't know what the heck I was doing), I called my cousin asked if we could reschedule (I was so nervous I almost puked), she said people are already here, you don't have a choice now!! I just showed the products that I really liked and went off of the little information I could remember from the "PR University" videos that I watched (I was so nervous I forgot mostly everything) but after 2 hours of super awkwardness I made almost $500!!
3. Has your “why” changed since you’ve been in business?
Yes!! Previously it was all about the money. I could make a wonderful living in such a limited amount of time, and still have time for things like school. Now, I do it because I want to be in control of my own life, money, and health. About 2 years ago I decided that I was going to put Pure Romance on the back burner and focus on my "big girl job" the reason I went to school. After landing a great job in an area that I absolutely loved, we moved and found ourselves in a condo (that was probably a little too expensive). After going to my doctor for my physical with a complaint of severe migraines and headaches that woke me up in the middle of the night I was diagnosed with high blood pressure at 24!! My doctor attributed it to the high stress of my job and the ridiculous hours that I was working (he didn’t say ridiculous but they were). So, at 24 I was on 2 different medications for high blood pressure. About a month of taking this medicine I decided that I needed to find a job that wouldn’t cause so much stress and disturbance in my life. It was actually much easier than I thought I found a position that paid more, had benefits, and was in a much more relaxing setting within only a few weeks. After about a month of working at the new place I was informed that we were letting one of our doctors go and that my hours were going to be cut down to about half of what I originally was hired for. So, at that point I had just moved into a big expensive condo in an area that everything costs too much and now my hours were being cut, how exactly was I going to survive?? Pure Romance DUH!! I really can’t imagine not doing Pure Romance now, it really is a necessity to be able to be in control of my life.
4. Have there been any surprises in your business or has it been exactly what you imagined it would be?
There have definitely been surprises, some good some not so good but I have learned so much about myself and other people. Most of the surprises have been about how much I can really accomplish when I remove limitations from myself and others.
5. What is your favorite thing about being a consultant?
My favorite thing about being a consultant is the amazing friendships I have made, and getting to see and celebrate my sister consultants successes.
6. Share with us a short term goal and a long term goal.
My short term goal is to achieve Director status by the end of 2014. My long term goal is to become a snow bunny before I am 30.
7. Do you have a favorite item to demo? What and Why?
I have two favorite items to demo, I love the tickle whip/ dust me pink combo. This demo is my favorite because I made it up myself and it cracks me up every time. I also really like to show the frequent flyer swing. I think many customers think about getting a swing, but without seeing it they don’t seriously consider it, after seeing it and being able to try it out it is a much more realistic purchase.
8. Is there anything special that you do for your hostesses to build rapport or get them to book with you?
No, nothing special. I do try to befriend them and let them see me as a real person, not just a consultant. I like them to be able to feel very comfortable with me, and I think that really helps.
9. What advice would you give to a brand new consultant?
Be a Pure Romance NERD!! Even if you don’t have a lot of extra time learn as much as you can (not just for new consultants ;)) Also do that blueprint for success, that’s awesome, and complete a bootcamp with Amy if possible. That will kickstart your business. GO FOR NO!! It’s never too soon to start building your team. And always practice positive self talk, you will be surprised how far a good attitude will take you. 10. ALWAYS present yourself in a positive light, act with intention, and be a sponge. Pure Romance will teach you things that you never dreamt you would learn from it.
10. Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
(no response, lol)
